Don observes:

On drawing & painting:
I've been drawing in earnest since about age four. Mom gave me the drawings to prove it. I do enjoy drawing and painting, but it's not relaxing... it's work. My subjects are usually things about which I am passionate: raptors, sporting dogs, antebellum architecture, people. Fellow falconers are usually quite interested in my work because of the subject matter, but they are harsher than any cynical New York City critic. They count the tail feathers, then the primaries and secondaries! Then, if satisfied, they'll relax and enjoy the aesthetic. Still, largely because of the falconry community and other friends of avians, my work has found its way into private collections across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, Australia, Canada, and most of the States. I'd rather paint a bird than anything else, and it's quite rewarding when a knowledgable collector responds in kind.
